<p>This domain is found in sequences, which belong to MEROPS peptidase family C46 (clan, CH). The type example is the hedgehog protein of <taxon tax_id="7227">Drosophila melanogaster</taxon> (Fruit fly) which self-processes by a cysteine dependent mechanism. </p><p>Hedgehog proteins are involved in intracellular signalling required for a variety of patterning events during development. The hint domain is found in these proteins, as well as several proteins which contain inteins and undergo protein splicing. These include the V-type ATP synthase alpha chain from Pyrococcus and the Guillardia replicative DNA helicase DNAB.The Hedgehog/Intein domain has been split to accommodate large insertions ofendonucleases. This entry is the N-terminal region.</p> Hedgehog/intein hint, N-terminal
