Kitamura, then deposited to the RIKEN BRC. B6.C3-Kit<W-f>/Rbrc. Fertile dominant spotting. The original Kit<W-f> mutation arose spontaneously in the C3H/HePas strain. The B6.C3-Kit<W-f> congenic strain was generated by backcrossed to C57BL/6 by Dr. Y. Kitamura. Homozygous mice for Kit<W-f> are black with white sash. Typical dilution of pigmented areas not observed. The c-Kit cDNA from Kit<W-f>/ Kit<W-f> mice showed an AT to TA transversion at nucleotide 2474 that resulted in the change from Arg to Trp at position 816.
