<p>Members of this entry oxidize L-lactate to pyruvate, reducing molecular oxygen to hydrogen peroxide. The enzyme is known in <taxon tax_id="1377">Aerococcus viridans</taxon>, <taxon tax_id="1346">Streptococcus iniae</taxon>, and some strains of <taxon tax_id="1314">Streptococcus pyogenes</taxon> where it appears to contribute to virulence.</p>
