Members of this family catalyse the first step in aromatic aminoacid biosynthesis from chorismate. E-coli has three relatedsynthetases, which are inhibited by different aromatic aminoacids. This family also includes KDSA which has very similarcatalytic activity but is involved in the first step ofliposaccharide biosynthesis.
