Flavodoxins are electron-transfer proteins that function in various electron transport systems. Flavodoxins bind one FMN molecule, which serves as aredox-active prosthetic group [<cite idref="PUB00000480"/>] and are functionally interchangeable with ferredoxins. They have been isolated from prokaryotes, cyanobacteria, and some eukaryotic algae.
